Super Mario Brothers 3
Probably the most popular Mario game for the 8 bit Nintendo system Super Mario Brothers 3 offered more levels, secrets, and features than any of the
Mario games before it. The game had dozens of secret levels, multiple mini games that let you win prizes, and the ability to change costumes each with its own
special abilities.
The Game
Despite the familiar game play Super Mario Bros. 3 is a totally different game. More puzzles, enemies and secret areas have been added. Rather than just moving forward in the game, Mario travels the Mushroom World by a map,
which often splits into different paths, giving the player more choices to choose from. The player can also skip levels, allowing for greater control over the game's outcome. Mario can acquire special items through "Toad Houses" and battles with Hammer Brothers, and can be used on the map screen.
Super Mario Bros. 3 also made it possible for the screen to scroll diagonally (in Super Mario Bros. 2, it can scroll vertically or horizontally but not both). Because this game was harder a luxury was given to players in the U.S.
If you have one of the "special" powers and then take a hit, you will go back to Super Mario, allowing for an extra hit. This is opposite the original Super Mario Bros. and the Japanese versions.
